The Mill

This week, we talked to 24-year-old rising star Sybyr. The artist—who hails from Prince George’s County, Maryland—has spent the last few years racking up an impressive collection of singles, EPs, and albums, culminating in his newest release “The Mill.”

Sybyr’s unique sound on “The Mill'' reflects a mix of his early influences from gospel and alternative rock with his current affection for trap and R&B music. On this track, Sybyr describes setting the intention of writing a party song with less wordplay and more atmosphere. As a result, the listener feels entranced by the song’s bouncy “emo groove” instrumentation and rhythmic vocals. Fans of Kid Cudi are sure to groove along with this track.

“The Mill” adds onto its shadowy, emo atmosphere with a stunningly haunting music video. The visual follows Sybyr and his cult, who wear neon-lit masks reminiscent of The Purge. A dark fantasy unfolds inside a refurbished barn bathed in blood-red lights, where Sybyr and his followers jam out to the track in unison.

After this release, Sybyr plans to continue releasing music, both under his current artist name and on a different page. With a new musical outlet, he hopes to balance his current pop-punk/trap brand with more rap-based releases on the side. Sybyr also has plans for a new single next month and a new album, Anti-World II, which is set to release in June this year.

Follow Sybyr on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube to stream “The Mill” and more upcoming releases.
