G.M.O, Faraon, “La Nueva Generación”

twenty four eight

Born Guillermo De Lira, rapper and Inglewood native G. Mo has been an avid fan of the old-school hip-hop sound since middle school. The artist recounts studying East Coast rap legends Biggie and Nas “like history books.” He learned about not only these artists’ music but also their hustle and struggles. Despite hailing from the West Coast, G. Mo felt deeply connected to their history.

After a brief period of exploring music management, G. Mo grew into his own creative identity in college and began making music. A documentary about rapper M.I.A., who grew up as an immigrant, inspired his belief that there are “no barriers” for an artist that believes in themselves.

This confidence is evident in the smooth, Latin-infused rap sound—which he describes as “global urban”—that defines G. Mo’s single “AGUA.” The track is inspired by J. Balvin’s sound and empathizes with the notion of “swimming through, looking for a relationship” but struggling to find it.

Although he didn’t give too much away, G. Mo teased that the song’s upcoming visual will be shot at the same location as Tupac’s “I Get Around” video and gives off “summer, pool vibes.”

“AGUA” is one of thirteen tracks on his debut album GENERACIÓN. G. Mo hopes listeners of the album can get into the summer vibes through his exploration of various Latin-inspired sounds, like reggaeton and Brazilian funk. GENERACIÓN is a celebration of today’s booming generation of Latin music that he hopes to make his own mark on one day.

“AGUA” and GENERACIÓN are available now on Spotify and Apple Music.
