OWBY x SLØTH Remix

  1. What/who inspired your sound?

I think at that time I was listening to a lot of songs produced by League of Legends (Burn It All Down, Take Over, etc.) + Kpop. All of his songs were about fighting, getting stronger, and not giving up - typical video game or anime themes. These are themes that give you strength in those moments when you feel like things are not going your way.

  2. Where are you from?

    I am from Switzerland (Bern).

  3. How would you describe the music that you typically create?

If I had to give a name to my music style, it would be "Modern Wave": the soul of my songs is mainly born from New Wave (Depeche Mode) and blends with modern hip-hop (beats) and 2000's RnB (beat groove, topline) while being inspired by both Daft Punk and movie soundtracks. Lately, a Kpop influence is felt in my current productions.

  4. What is your motivation is to make music? How did you get into it?

I started producing music at the age of 16 after seeing Muse live (at Wembley Stadium). I felt such energy and fascination during the concert and it created incredible and inspiring memories. That's exactly what I want to pass on and why I want to make music and bring my musical universe to a large scale.

  5. Who would you most like to collaborate with?

Oh, man... Depeche Mode, Daft Punk, or… Stray Kids; BTS (I LOVE the energetic pop style, for real!)

  6. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

I would say... create a clearer path for independents to approach bigger labels or majors. Not necessarily that it becomes less selective, but that artists can be clearer about how to approach an agent, scout, label or major. I don't feel like it's very clear right now and it's more about luck (for example, it would be an agent/scout that would come to you and not the other way around). Basically, making the artist who wants to show up even more responsible to the music industry players.

  7. Where is your creative space? Where do you go to get creative?

Well... I only have one room at the moment. so I would say my creative space is in my head, where there is a whole world. I realized that I have 3 different ways of inspiration: the first one is by hearing a melody echoing in my head (where the rest of the beat ends up being created at the same time), the second one is by imagining a video clip (the imagined images make me project a piece of music that would fit perfectly to the clip) and finally, the challenge/opportunity: if I get a call and am presented with a golden opportunity to prove myself as a producer/artist, I can come up with a gem in a short period of time (here, it's imagining surprising the person that inspires me)

  8. What is your creative process like?

First: either I start with a melody in mind (that I would have recorded spontaneously as a voice memo on my phone), or I come across a synth sound that inspires me instantly.

Then, I focus only on 4-8 bars in the loop. I add whatever comes to mind (flow phase - which should not be stopped at all). At this point, almost all the elements that appear in the verse, chorus, break, etc. appear in these 4-8 bars. Finally, I structure all the elements to form a song and add SFX and transitions. Next to that and during the production, I improvise toplines in mumble on the whole song. It's in the second time that I write the lyrics before recording the final voices.

  9. Name of your latest/future release?

CLEAN. (last release) and ‘CLEAN. – OWBY x SLØTH Remix’ coming soon 18 feb

  10. Where would you say you fit into the current music landscape?

t's hard to say. I find it hard to place my style in this landscape (I'd love to meet someone who can give me a precise answer to this).

Depending on the production, I can go from Dark Pop to blockbuster end credits songs (that's what people often say).

In fact, this question perfectly sums up my main struggle in terms of targeting. But right now, I'm going to focus on the gaming community which I think will be the most receptive to my future productions...!
